Matt Quick Returns to NH-S!

On Novemeber 28th, author Matt Quick will be returning to New Hope-Solebury High School for a third visit,  this time to discuss his newest  novel, Boy 21. This young adult novel is about a high school basketball player, Finley, who lives in a rough part of town with his father and disabled grandfather and is the only white boy on his team.  When a new student, Russ, arrives at his high school, Finley doesn't know quite what to make of this black kid who claims to be from another world and calls himself Boy21 - after his basketball number which also happens to be the same number as Finley's. This is an intriguing story about two very different boys, both having some serious family and living issues, but whom find comfort in each other's friendship.

Quick first visited NH-S when his first book was published, Silver Linings Playbook.  This adult novel about a young man who is recovering from depression is now being made into a movie starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro.

Matt Quick's young adult novel, Sorta Like a Rock Star, is a touching story about Amber Appleton - a homeless girl who sleeps (often alone) on the Hello Yellow bus which her mom drives for a living. Her mom is often "out fishing" at bars, looking for her next Prince Charming. Readers will smile with delight at the positive, vivacious attitude of Amber as she spreads hope among her various, eccentric friends. However, when she struggles to come to terms with a tragic, life-changing event, we find that Amber is not as capable of receiving help as she is at giving it.
